Holography is a term used to produce three dimensional image of an object with the help of laser beam called hologram and this terminology is called holography.
History of Holography
Holography dates from 1947, when British (native of Hungary) scientist Dennis Gabor developed the theory of holography while working to improve the resolution of an electron microscope. Gabor coined the term hologram from the Greek words holos, meaning "whole," and gramma, meaning "message". Further development in the field was stymied during the next decade because light sources available at the time were not truly "coherent" (monochromatic or one-color, from a single point, and of a single wavelength).
Holography Vs Photography
- Photography produces two dimensional images where as holography produces three dimension images.
- Holography as higher information capacity as compare to photography.
- Negative is prepared in photography where as in holography no negative is required.
How Holography Works?
TYPES OF HOLOGRAMS
- As holography is 3 dimensional laser photography, so holograms are the resulting image of holography or a true 3 dimensional record of any object.
- The two main types of holograms are reflection holograms and transmission holograms which are further divided into stereo grams , rainbow holograms , embossed holograms etc
TRANSMISSION HOLOGRAMS
For making transmission hologram he holographic plate is placed behind the laser and object as the laser
light reflect off the object will interfere directly with the light coming from the laser in front of the plate and
then get recorded as such .this create deep scene hologram and laser light is necessary to view the virtual image.
REFLECTION HOLOGRAMS
Reflection holograms are lit from the front reflecting the light to you as you view it,like a painting or photograph hung on a wall, different film emulsion produce images with different characteristics. In order to make reflection hologram the holographic plate is placed between laser light and object.

Advantages of holography
- A high resolution three dimensional image.
- Glasses free 3d display.
- No need for projection screen.
- Life like images.
- Interactive display.
APPLICATIONS REAL WORLD APPLICATIONS ARE ENDLESS
HOLOGRAPHY IN ENTERTAINMENT
When one thinks about holography in the entertainment industry, the movies Star Trek and Star Wars come in to mind. Although ,what people see in these movies are not real holograms, they depict what a real hologram looks like and future capabilities of holography.
Holography In Live stage shows
In musical industry, holography is being used for concerts. In case, the musicians can be far away in New York while performing in several cities around the world.
Holography In Advertisements
Advertisers are always trying to push for new and innovative ways to reach audiences.
Recently, sportswear company Nike launched an advertising campaign featuring 3D holographic ads on street signs in Amsterdam.
Holography In Gaming
Holography would allow us to view a sporting event from different angles in a way unlike anything we experience today
With holography we can create gaming environment any where without having play stations around.

Holography On Airports
Holographic projections are being trialed at Lurton airport to run passengers through security procedures, saving staff time.
Holography In Medical
Medical students would be able to practice surgical procedures on a hologram, experimenting first on an “enlarged” version of the human body and slowly reducing it down to normal size as they become more comfortable with the surgery.
